DayDestinationDescription
Day 1BamakoMali's capital is alive to the sound of music, motorbikes and traders selling their wares, left, right and centre. Hit the streets to immerse yourself in the local culture.
Day 2DjenneThe jewel of Mali's crown, Djenne is a World Heritage-listed city whose colourful market remains almost unchanged since the days camel caravans brought salt and slaves from across the Sahara. Wandering the dusty streets, its easy to see why the town is a designated World Heritage site.
Days 3-5Dogon TrekMarvel at the towering mosque that dominates Djenne - the largest mud structure in the world - before trekking along the sandstone Bandiagara Escarpment to discover the fascinating culture, elaborate masks and unique architecture of the Dogon people.
Day 6MoptiTake the opportunity to go solo today, exploring the evocative town of Mopti. Discover the historic port, watch as cargos of salt, fish, fruit and firewood change hands or browse street stalls for a souvenir.
Days 7-9Niger River CruiseFollow the flow of the Niger River, as we travel by private boat, watching the flurry of activity in and around the wide waters. At night, camp on the riverbank and enjoy the rural tranquillity.
Days 10-11TimbuktuExplore the legendary Old Town of Timbuktu with its ancient mosques, crumbling houses and interesting museums. Once a wealthy trading outpost linking the west to the north of Africa and Europe, Timbuktu became a metaphor for exotic, faraway lands. Stroll through the atmospheric streets to get a feel for this once-illustrious settlement. It's possible to have your passport stamped 'Tombouctou' at the tourist information office.
Day 12SevareTravel across a sea of Saharan sand en route to the bustling little town of Sevare.
Day 13SegouA calm, tree-lined city, Segou is a chance to enjoy a bit of peace and quiet before returning to the clamour of Bamako. A leisurely evening in this serene riverside town, watching a gorgeous sunset over the River Niger, is the perfect way to relax.
Day 14BamakoFriendly locals, lively streets and vibrant markets are good reasons to linger a little longer.
