Days 1-3Playa Del CarmenSnorkel among the mangrove and get a taste for refreshing margaritas. It's possible to take a trip to infamous Cancun and frolic in the surf or hit the many bars.
Days 4-5Caye CaulkerLie on the beach, go for a swim or stroll around the sandy island. There's an opportunity to go manatee (sea cow) spotting and take in these huge, curious creatures.
Days 6-7San IgnacioTucked between forested hills and gushing rivers, optional activities abound - wander through the butterfly garden or canoe through limestone caves.
Days 8-9Flores/TikalIn this island town, many locals still get about by canoe. Why not visit Tikal to explore the maze of structures scattered through the jungle? Those feeling fit can clamber up the world's highest Mayan structure.
Days 10-11Rio DulceTravel through the dense jungle of the Peten to Rio Dulce. Perhaps take a lancha up the river to visit nearby hot springs, a rubber plantation and an old Spanish fort.
