DayDestinationDescription
Day 1Siem Reap/Angkor WatA short distance from the temples of Angkor is the town of Siem Reap, base for this exploratory adventure. The ferocious carved stone heads that flank the South Gate provide a fitting introduction to the spectacular temples within. Enter into the heart of Angkor Thom - the Bayon - to find the enigmatic smiling faces whose eyes seem to follow you wherever you go. Admire the intricately carved Terrace of the Leper King and stroll along the grand Elephant Terrace before heading to the most famous temple complex of them all - Angkor Wat. Learn the story behind each of its extraordinary bas-reliefs and overcome your fear of heights scaling the steep steps up to the temple turrets - there's dizzying views from the top of the surrounding rainforest as well as the glistening moat.
Days 2-3Banteay Srei/Ta ProhmA highly recommended way to start the day is by watching sunrise over Angkor Wat. Travel through rural countryside to the pink sandstone temple of Banteay Srei, a small but exquisitely carved structure, before visiting the atmospheric Ta Prohm, whose crumbling structures have been left to the ravages of the jungle. Later, take a boat cruise over Tonle Sap Lake and stop in at a floating fishing house to see how locals live. Enjoy a guided tour of the three pre-Angkorian temples of Rolous Town - Bakong, Preah Ko and Lolei - whose construction marked the beginning of a brilliant Khmer age.
Day 4Siem ReapBack at the base for this Angkor exploration, there's time to buy souvenirs, embark on a pub crawl or enjoy a final taste of Khmer cuisine.
