Day 3Kilimanjaro ClimbThis morning will be awakened at around 7:00am with a steaming cup of your favorite beverage.. Weather permitting, when you emerge from your tent, you will be greeted by a spectacular view of Uhuru Peak (located at the top of Kibo, the highest of Kilimanjaro's three volcanic cones). The day's trekking takes us up a steep track through a savanna of tall grass, volcanic rock and bearded heather. We will then encounter giant groundsels, impressive plants appearing as guardians of untouched treasures. The steep path will lead us through a ghostly landscape of volcanic lava, caves and foamy streams framed by giant groundsels. Arrive at the Shira Plateau, and later, after 3-4 more hours of trekking, at Shira Camp sitting at 12,598 feet. Total trekking time this day is about 6 hours.

Day 4Kilimanjaro ClimbThis morning the site to behold upon emerging from your tent is the entire Shira Plateau. Walk steadily up to the pass at Lava Tower (15,000 ft.) then descend towards Barranco Camp. The descent will take us along an immense canyon called Grand Barranco where we encounter the groundsels once again. There are numerous tiny waterfalls fed by mountain streams that converge here to form one river. Camp is set up here at almost the same altitude as the night before. Today's trek is again, about 6 hours.

Day 5Kilimanjaro ClimbToday we slowly scramble up the Barranco Wall, arriving at the Karanga Valley for lunch.
